Who are we? We are Jan and Jon and have owned and run The Snail of Happiness shop since March 2022.
The Snail of Happiness is a real shop in the small west Wales town of Lampeter. We opened our door (we only have the one) in March 2022, although our blog of the same name has existed for more than 10 years.
Our aim is to encourage making and mending without it costing the earth. There is a culture in the crafting community that more is better and we want to change that attitude, encouraging crafters and makers to see that higher quality is better, pre-loved is better, re-used and repaired is better.
We are passionate about creating a circular economy that enables people to make and mend enjoyably and sustainably. We believe doing that starts with community which is why The Snail of Happiness is home to a textile club, Knit Night and the Craft Doctor. It is a place that people can drop in to talk about crafting or just moan about the weather!

Trying to buy ethically can be a real challenge, so we want to do some of the leg work and help you. Our aim is to work towards stocking products that have good credentials, both environmentally and socially. This is why lots of our stock is pre-loved – maximising the useful life of every object that has already been manufactured. However, we know that this is not always possible and so we do also sell new goods, particularly tools and wool, but also some fabrics.
